The morning round is where every farm’s data starts
Every disease alert, every yield projection, every risk score in Peladang is downstream of one piece of work: a person walking through a plot and writing down what they see. If that data is bad, late, or missing, everything else is too. Field Scouting is the feature that makes sure it isn’t.
What scouting captures
- Per-plot survey recordsEach survey is scoped to a plot, dated, and attributed to the worker who submitted it. You always know who saw what, where, and when.
- Pest counts with severityNumber of plants affected, percent of canopy, severity level. The same form covers aphids, leaf folder, anthracnose, and the rest โ fields adapt to the pest selected.
- Photos with EXIF orientation handlingTap to capture. Client-side compression to under 500 KB. Orientation auto-corrected. Photos attach to the survey, the planting, and the alert if one is triggered.
- Disease and pest event flaggingIf a scouting record warrants a follow-up action, mark it as an event. The event surfaces on the alerts page until resolved.
Why Field Mode matters
Scouting from a desktop is a dead-end pattern โ no one walks the field with a laptop. Peladang’s scouting form runs in Field Mode, a mobile-optimized interface built specifically for outdoor phone use:
- Bottom nav bar with 48 px touch targets โ usable with one thumb.
- No page reloads โ panel switching is instant.
- Offline outbox โ submissions queue if signal drops; sync when it returns.
- CSRF token auto-refresh โ you never get bounced to a login screen mid-shift.
- Weather and last-survey values pre-fill so common fields don’t need re-entry.
How it connects to alerts
Field Scouting and Disease & Pest Monitoring are two halves of the same loop. A scouting count goes in; the alert engine recalculates risk; if conditions warrant, an alert fires. The next morning’s round either confirms the alert was right (the count grew) or shows it was a false positive (the count is stable). Either way, the system gets better at predicting your plot.
For the worker, not the manager
Most farm software is built for the manager and tolerated by the worker. We tried to flip that. Field Mode is what a worker opens first thing in the morning, lives in for the day, and closes when their shift ends. The manager gets a clean dashboard at the end of it โ but the worker gets a fast, mobile-shaped tool that doesn’t fight them.
